What are your Credentials?
I have a Master’s degree plus a 2-year post-graduate diploma in counselling. I was first trained in Marriage and Family Counselling, and then I took further study at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and OCD treatment. I have also done training (in the 1990s) in Grief and Crisis Counselling. I am a registered (licensed) psychotherapist with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. My registration number is 6269.
What is your Experience in Treating Emetophobia?
I have over 20 years’ experience treating emetophobia exclusively, and I am the co-author of “Emetophobia: Understanding and Treating Fear of Vomiting in Children and Adults” (2023, Jessica Kingsley Publishing, London). This book is the first and only academic research and clinical manual written for other psychotherapists.
Perhaps my most significant piece of experience is that I suffered from severe emetophobia for close to 40 years, and since 2002, I have been fully and completely recovered.
Do You Work Online?
Yes – all my sessions are online, through ZOOM, which is HIPAA/PIPEDA compliant. Once you email me that you’d like to start sessions, I will set you up in my JANE admin system, and you can make an appointment online whenever I have open availability. You will normally see me once per week, but you can book every two weeks or less often if you wish – it’s up to you.
“I know exactly what you’re going through because I’ve been there myself.”
— Anna Christie

What’s the Time Commitment?
I normally see people for 12-16 sessions. During this time, we will ONLY be working on your emetophobia. There will be homework assigned between sessions, and it’s up to you to decide how long you spend on it.

When are your time slots?
Bookable online:

If you can’t find a time that works for you, either I or my assistant, Alex, may be able to help with a different time that isn’t bookable online. Email Alex.
What’s Your Success Rate?
Success really depends on your level of commitment. You must attend sessions and do homework. It’s hard. Really hard. But because I’ve been there, I promise never to make it so hard that you can’t do it.

You may not be 100% over your emetophobia at the end of our time together. What I promise is that you will know everything you need to know to become 100% better, as I am. But you must practice, practice, practice just like anything else that is difficult for your brain to learn (or in our case, re-learn). Knowledge is power, and I will work with you until you have all the knowledge you need to take power again in your own life.

Photo by Erik Mclean on Pexels.com What is the cost?
My fee is equivalent to approximately $179USD or £150GBP per session. Unfortunately, I do not work with insurance companies outside of BC, Canada however you will be issued a receipt with my Registration (License) number on it, which you may submit to your insurance, and some companies in the USA may cover part of it.
If this cost is too much for you, I do offer a couple of options. First of all, you may lower the monthly cost by only seeing me once every two (or even three) weeks. This is completely your choice. Secondly, for the cost of just 3 sessions, I offer a set of 11 emetophobia group classes, which are the same content, without the one-on-one feature, but class members have found them very helpful. As I test people before and after the class with standard Emetophobia Inventories, I can see if there is improvement, and the success rate so far has been about 89%. I run classes beginning in January, April, and September. All the information about classes is here: www.emetophobiahelp.org/classes
