Anna’s Story: Over 20 years ago I was just like you – paralyzed with emetophobia. There was a time when I could only eat bananas and Digestive cookies (biscuits). I knew I had to turn my life around but I had no idea how and I was afraid to tell people exactly what I was afraid of. There was no internet back then! And no doctors or therapists seemed to know about emetophobia. Then in 1985 I took part in one of the first scientific studies on emetophobia (Philipps, 1985). It was still a long journey. By 2002 I was completely recovered, so I went back to school and changed careers to become a licensed (registered) psychotherapist (“RCC”). Since then I’ve helped hundreds of people with emetophobia in my private practice.

As I’m getting older (don’t worry – I’ll retire when I die) I decided to reach out to others with this more affordable format. $50USD/hour is a great price for basically the same information and teaching. Here are some of what previous participants have said about the classes:

Class Content – Level 1

1. The 11 classes are based on CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) with ERP (exposure and response prevention). WAIT! DON’T FREAK OUT! KEEP READING…I also use the principles of ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) to do the exposures. Exposure exercises will be done together in class so you feel surrounded by and supported by others and myself. The exercises are very gradual and begin with simply words, cartoons, drawings, pics of nauseous people, etc. and we slowly work our way toward videos and sounds. Exposure does NOT mean you have to vomit; in fact, that would make your phobia worse.
2. There will be some sharing of experiences, homework, etc. which is entirely voluntary. No one has to share if they don’t want to.
3. You will be given a workbook written by me to use and to keep. Only one lesson at a time will be given to you each week.
4. There is homework each week which can be from as little as 10 minutes per day up to 30 minutes per day (5 days per week only). Success in this program is dependent upon attendance at all classes and completion of all homework exercises.

Class Content – Level 2 – Accountability

Meets Saturdays at 12:30pm Pacific (3:30pm Eastern; 8:30pm UK; 6:30am Sundays in Sydney, AUSTRALIA)

In Level 2 there are 6 classes over 3 months. This group is for people who want more structure and accountability for completing safety behaviour calendars, real-life exposures and interoceptive exercises. Anna will help participants navigate obstacles to completing the exposure work at all levels. No exposure work will be done in class. This class is for people who have completed Level 1 classes, OR for those who have worked with Anna individually through all the online exposure levels and wish to join in.

What is my choice of class times? All classes are on Saturdays.

Is there a “Level 2” class for people who have already completed the initial set? YES! (By popular demand!) No exposure work will be done in class, as with Level 1.

Can I sign up for Level 2 if I’ve already taken it? YES. Take Level 2 as many times as you’d like!

Are classes live or recorded? Classes are live with Anna Christie, via Zoom. If you are unable to attend a class, a recording will be sent to you, which is only available for 3 days, for confidentiality reasons. 

What are Anna’s credentials? Anna has a Master’s degree and is a registered (licensed) clinical counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (Registration # 6269). She took further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and OCD Treatment from Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University. Anna has treated over 300 people with emetophobia since 2010, and she is the co-author of the first and only clinical training manual on emetophobia. “Emetophobia: Understanding and Treating Fear of Vomiting in Children and Adults” (2023) Jessica Kingsley Publishers, London, UK. Anna has been fully recovered from severe emetophobia since 2002.

How many classes are there? In Level 1, there are 11 classes over 12-16 weeks (the duration is dependent on the time of year and holidays). In Level 2, there are 6 classes over 12-16 weeks (the duration is dependent on the time of year and holidays).

How long is each class? 1 hour.

How many students are in each class? Up to 25 students (Level 1) and possibly an intern or resident therapist observer. Level 2A classes are limited to 5 participants.

What is your success rate? Based on students filling out three different instruments both before and after their set of 11 classes, about 89% show marked improvement. The instruments (questionnaires) are EMET-Q, SPOV-I and Y-BOCS. The first two measure severity of emetophobia and the third measures levels of OCD. All three instruments have been found to be both reliable and valid based on scientific tests.

Do I need to pre-register? September 2025 classes: Pre-registration and early bird prices are in effect until September 21st at midnight Pacific Time.

Why pre-register? You may pay the full early bird price ($545USD) and you don’t need to pre-register. You’ll be slotted directly into the class. Pre-registration holds your spot until you fill out our forms and give us your credit card information for either payment in full (by Sept. 15th) or enrollment in the monthly payment plan.

When am I guaranteed a spot? (Pre-registration will trigger my assistant to set you up in my JANE admin system and send you forms to fill out.) Unless you pay in full, only when you enter your credit card information into JANE are you considered fully registered and added to the class list.

Is the tuition refundable? No – all fees are non-refundable. If you pay in full and cannot attend classes, but notify me BEFORE classes start, I will try to fill your spot so I can refund your tuition, but I cannot guarantee this.

If I drop out of classes before all my monthly payments are due, do I still need to make the payments? Can I receive a refund? No. Tuition is due and non-refundable once classes begin.

Do you have a payment plan? Yes. You may choose to make four monthly payments.

Do I need a credit card to register? Yes.

What are the class times in other time zones? It’s getting complicated, so please ask Google or Alexa to convert the times for you.

Can I join class from my car? You may not have a clear enough wifi connection. Optimally, you will join us on a computer with an ethernet connection and a fast internet speed. We will be uploading and downloading both audio and video so your connection should be as fast as possible. That being said, some students have joined us as a passenger from their car and been able to follow the class ok.

Are the classes confidential? Yes. Everyone signs an agreement which includes confidentiality. Zoom recordings expire in 3 days. Zoom is now HIPAA and PIPEDA compliant.
